Goodbye?
YOU GUYS.
So, I’ve been thinking a lot about this space and how I write so much less than I used to and it makes me sad. I’m trying to figure out what would compel me to write more, share more and what kind of space/time I would need to do that.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, I also have been thinking about the fact that I created ‘The Spectrum’ when I was 14. FOURTEEN!!! I am so much older now! GOOD GOD. I AM ALMOST 30.
ANYWAY, when I was 14, ‘The Spectrum’ didn’t really mean anything or it just meant everything and I thought it was kind of fun, spanning all topics, blar dee blar blagh.
Obviously now, in 2012, almost 2013, things are different. The phrase ‘the spectrum’ is usually used when discussing autism and special needs diagnoses in children.
I would REALLY REALLY hate for anyone to think that I am using this blog to poke fun at that.
And I REALLY REALLY hate coming up in Google searches when poor parents are trying to find information about their kids and then they click here and I’m like HA HA DUMPLINGS AND MY DAD! LOL!
Oof.
So, I’m thinking of shutting The Spectrum down out of respect for the term and freeing up this domain and putting my thoughts elsewhere on the internet.
Anyone have any ideas for new blog names? Do people even have blogs anymore? I should start a tumblr instead but I’m just not into it.
Let me know! I am going to attempt to move some archives and items over to a new space shortly into the new year, which will help get rid of all those old posts I am VERY EMBARRASSED ABOUT while keeping some old favorites.

What’s new with me: I got new glasses and did that weird trendy ombre thing to my hair though you can barely tell. I went to North Carolina to spend some time with my delicious fiancé and his close friends which meant just lots of this + wine:

When I saw goodbye I got a little nervous. I’ve been a non-commenting reader for quite a while and I love your stories. I am really looking forward to hearing about your wedding and, even more so, your dad’s part in it. Will there be tears, an awesome speech, balloon animals? We want to know!

Oh, please let us know where you go! I’ve been a non-commenting reader for a while, too. Is that weird? I had happened upon this a while back and every time you post it’s like my mom telling me what’s going on with my third cousin that I haven’t met, but still feel invested in. Is THAT weird? If so, I can tell you all about me, then it won’t be creepy. Or something. Man, I love the internet, but so weird, right?
I got nervous when I saw that title, too. I’ll follow you to the ends of the internet, Laaawra! Okay, maybe that’s a little creepy, but your posts always make me laugh.
Also, I love the names GreenInOC suggested.
As possibly your longest reader (you will never escape me, L24601rent!), I would be very sad to see you go. I have no suggestions for a new blog name, but I’m throwing my two cents in to encourage you to keep writing about whatever continues to inspire you- love, travel, art, great conversation, a delicious cocktail, you name it. I would definitely miss your words.
If you google “spectrum” or even “the spectrum” autism doesn’t come up on the first page of results. Or at least it didn’t when I googled. Your results may vary.
Personally I love TheSpectrum as a blog name, but if you are set on changing it I vote for GreeninOC’s suggestion of Lawra.
Or, as I imagine your dad saying it, LAWRA.
Another non posting fan here. Love your writing, and I think LAWRA is a good blog title. But changing it because you’re worried about offending someone is…overly sensitive? Please don’t worry about it.
