Doin’ What I Do

Posted on December 9th, 2010 in Daily Musings

You guyz! Reverb10 is a great way for me to write some really depressing stuff about my dad, am I right? And then I get to sit here and talk more about what I made this year and what I dreamt and how I am beautiful. Which, so great!

Except it’s cramping my style.

Because I kind of want to just know what y’all are having for lunch.

ANY TAKERS?

I’m eating some delicious selections from the Indian buffet from my company cafeteria as Thursday is Indian Buffet Day and as such, should be declared a national holiday. Or, a weekly holiday. Or something. Wait. Maybe I should go back to reverb10.

I will. I think I will. I will at the very least post a Year In Review or some such.

But for now, I am enjoying my Indian food. What about you guys? What else is going on? My ankle is still busted so I’m trying to eliminate gluten and sugar during the week to prevent some really intense holiday weight gain. The fact that I still can’t exercise is driving me a little nutty. The best roommate I’ve ever had (aside from The Roommate, the Permanent One) is moving out in a few weeks which is leaving me bummed, I’ve only bought a handful of Christmas presents but I bought my own Christmas tree which I decorated with The Roommate and Alayna while sipping apple cider that I spiked with bourbon and I had to walk to CVS to exchange my LED white lights because I stupidly bought COOL WHITE instead of WARM WHITE and this is why everyone hates Christmas because there are different versions of WHITE and that is sort of a lot, you know? Plus those LED lights are expensive as all get out but will save me 90% on my electric bill, says the packaging, which is super exciting. Also, Alayna bought a wedding dress and I have to keep it in my apartment which is sort of stressful because it’s a WEDDING DRESS and what if my apartment gets taken over by something that eats wedding dresses and I pull the dress out of my closet in July and I’m like ZOMG SORRY YOU HAVE TO GET MARRIED IN A TOGA BECAUSE THESE SUSPICIOUS WEDDING BUGS ATE YOUR DRESS, like, is that even a THING? I hope not because the dress is so so beautiful and I’m eating vegetable biryani but not chana masala because they didn’t have it today and giving up gluten means nixing the naan which I thought would be a big deal but isn’t because the naan in the company cafeteria isn’t even good naan, you feel me?

Look at me all stream of consciousness and shit.

Just call me William Faulkner.

AND YOU???

  1. dear ld, i am stalking you and your blog. it is not yet lunchtime on the wc (= west coast not water closet) but i am already thinking of my lunch. why? b/c i had the stomach flu and the last 4 days my main diet staple has been saltines. today i am going to try a real life actual sandwich. wish me luck. also i am listening to lots of christmas music and this morning heard vanessa williams ‘go tell it on the mountain’ which of course made me think of you. blissings, sara
p.s. i should note that i often think about lunch at around 11am – today is not an anomaly.

  2. Sara, I have usually planned my lunch by at LEAST 11 am. In fact, I have usually planned it and occasionally EATEN it at 11 am. And then I plan my snacks or dinner or something else food-related because I have a serious illness known as Tom Disease where your life revolves around food. Must be genetic.

I am so sorry about your stomach virus! That is awful!! BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR SANDWICH. Keep it tame. And of course, Go Tell It On The Mountain.

    In His Name,
    LD

  3. There was this thing that was supposed to be WOOOOOW big but ended up being all eh-disfunctional. Followed by some sad and confused and ending with a toddler with a flu.

Somebody told me this week that I had hit the “dork trifecta” which I thought was awesome.

Even bad naan is pretty good.

  4. I live in Spanish Harlem, so I’ve been going to these cool little hole-in-the-wall places and eating awesome authentic Mexican food. I was in one earlier today and this couple asked me if I was bi. And, well, I speak a little Spanish, but not enough to really be bi. But I didn’t want to seem provincial or stupid, so I said, “Yeah, I’m bi.” They got really excited and invited me to an S&M party tonight. So, that’s great, right? Spaniards and Mexicans. So it’ll be cool to go to the party, speak a little Spanish, and enjoy the whole multi-cultural thing. That’s what’s great about living in such an international city.

  5. Tim- just be prepared for a little Inquisition torture re-enactment… all part of the theme.
PS- where in Spanish Harlem do you go? I find myself in the general vicinity or passing through the nabe with a little time on my hands quite often, and I am always hungry for some tacos al pastor or, be still my heart, a bowl of posole.

I didn’t have lunch today. I was working straight through the day. Well, I suppose my lunch was coffee, Welch’s fruit thingies, and a tricolor cake-bite thing. But it’s all ok because my last student was a 15 minute walk from my favorite Malaysian dive, so I beasted on a bowl of Assam Laksa for dinner. It is like crack in noodle soup form for me. Savory, spicy, crack.

And tomorrow I am tutoring by one of my favorite taco trucks right after lunchtime, so you know I’m gonna get my tacos al pastor on! Maybe even a tamale, who knows? It will be a feasting frenzy.

  6. I appear to have been laboring under a massive misconception. There wasn’t much Spanish-speaking at that party, but quite a lot of German. Combined with my spelunking debacle, this has been the second-oddest weekend of 2010.
