Dad Update/Friendly Blood Reminder!
My dad is going into surgery this morning, getting some of his man parts lasered so he can pee normally again. (I bet he’s so glad I’m telling the internet about it.) If all goes smoothly, after he recovers (about 2-4 weeks), he can get a date on the calendar for hip surgery: the moment we’ve all been waiting for. This laser surgery is the last of the hurdles and should be pretty easy to recover from, we hope.
It’s typically an out-patient surgery but because of my father’s history of infection, they’re keeping him overnight to make sure everything is okay. He’s anxious but excited as this brings him closer and closer to getting some new hip bones, to getting out of that freaking wheelchair, to walking again, like a person. We are all so very excited that the end of this nightmare is in sight.
Neither the laser surgery nor the hip replacement will require it but in his honor, while he’s in surgery, I’m giving blood today. My father needed a blood transfusion during his 25 day stay in the hospital this past spring and it’s the least I can do to replace part of that. I am long overdue. And I’m ashamed! Particularly because I’m AB positive which I believe is the rarest blood type of them all. (LOOK AT ME! ALL SPECIAL ABOUT MY BLOOD TYPE! NAH NAH!)
I wrote a rather lengthy post last winter about a new dedication to blood donation, why I committed to doing it regularly, what it means to my father and what it means to me. You should check it out because THE MORE YOU KNOWWWWW!!!
You can read it here. (I suggest you do because it contains quite a few of my favorite dad stories of all time.)
And after you’re done with it, hopefully you’ll go roll your sleeves up and let someone suck your blood for a little while.
Become a member of our gang, y’all. You know you want to! I’ll keep you posted on dad’s recovery as soon as I know more. I’m hoping to sneak out and see him later today provided I’m allowed to with visiting hours and blah dee blah. I’m gonna show him the band on my arm and tell him HEY POPS! POLACK WARRIOR! MAN WITH NO HIP BONES BUT A BRAND NEW LASERED PROSTATE! THIS RIGHT HERE!!! THIS IS FOR YOU!!!

Remember the time you almost fainted when you went to see dad after giving blood?!?!?you’re too funny!
Okay, Deb, remember the time about 2 days later when you almost fainted due to cramps? I think this whole faint/gonna throw up thing is contagious with y’all!
Uh, oh, did it again…that is NOT Dad responding but THE MOM! Dad is probably mortified by the whole conversation.
Love,
The Mom
