Valentine’s Day Stereotype

Posted on February 14th, 2010 in Daily Musings, Stupid Stuff I Did

I’m not single this Valentine’s Day but PCG is in Austria for the next week so I am indeed spending this holiday alone.

I don’t particularly mind as I’m pretty used to spending Valentine’s Day by myself. I LOVE this holiday, whether I’m dating someone or not. Back in college, I used to the spend the day calling everyone in my cell phone and telling them that I loved them. Because I was so sweet that way. And apparently, had a LOT OF TIME ON MY HANDS.

PCG fretted about changing his flight so he could spend the day with me, etc. but I waved him away and insisted he just go to Austria and not worry about spending a Hallmark holiday with me. He confessed his fear that I would tell people he left me alone on Valentine’s Day and everyone would agree that is the BIGGEST JERK EVER but I only laughed because duh, everyone already KNOWS he’s the biggest jerk ever.

The biggest jerk ever who met me at work on Friday to say goodbye with flowers in hand and a gift certificate to a spa. HI PCG. U R MAH FAVRIT.

I spent most of the day today sleeping and then hauled out of bed for not one but two classes at the yoga studio. Because nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day than sweating to death for two and a half hours, OH MY LORD.

I stopped at CVS on my way home before picking up some take out and I realized afterwards that I had single-handedly embodied everyone’s Single Woman Stereotype.

I was dressed in sweatpants and fuzzy boots.

No make up.

Crazy knitted hat.

Wandering through the aisles of CVS, holding my purchases—a nail file, Crest whitestrips, People magazine and Double Stuf Oreos—while singing along with the radio, which was playing Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You.”

AND NOW I CRY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT FOR THE SAME DAMN THIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGG…

And then I stomped home, set up camp on the couch with a glass of wine and some Thai food and watched the Olympics.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT?

I really missed my boyfriend.

BUT.

I was really really happy.

Double Stuf oreos rock. Why haven’t I always known this!? Why don’t they spell “Stuf” with two F’s?!?

And I felt good knowing that I made some people at CVS laugh because WOW, just WOW, I was a sight to see.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY, Y’ALL. Enjoy the figure skating. It is truly awesome.
