Not To Belabor the Point But…
Last night, my lower back began to ache, my neck muscles felt sore, my glands started to swell and it hurt to swallow.
I took my temperature at the twins’ house where I was babysitting. Rather, their dad stuck the baby thermometer in my ear and told me to be brave and that it wouldn’t hurt a bit. Turns out, I was running a slight fever of 100 degrees.
Today, I feel about the same, no better, no worse.
Did I:
* catch the flu
* react in a funky way to the antacid meds, these are just side effects!
* catch strep from one of the twins who had a serious bout of it over two weeks ago
Therefore, should I:
* ignore it, go to bed, take the day off, rest
* go back to the clinic for a strep culture
* kill myself
You decide. This is like a really lame Choose Your Own Adventure story. WILL THE HEROINE’S BODY BEGIN TO DISINTEGRATE? WILL SHE LOSE A KIDNEY?
Only time will tell.

Oh my god, girl, just take the day off and rest. Everyone I know’s been running a fever this week– something nasty’s going around. It could be strep, but it probably isn’t. Just drink lots of liquids and get some extra sleep and see if your fever goes down. 100 isn’t even necessarily a fever– my body temperature fluctuates pretty wildly with my cycle (though you may know that that’s unusual for your body).
p.s. I never took my temperature this go-around, but those symptoms are like EXACTLY what I had. They went away after about 24 hours and now I’m just blowing my nose 800 times an hour. Something to look forward to.
Well, I was going to tell you that I was glad you know what was wrong with you (stomach thing) and hope you were feeling better, but I guess I am too late, still, hope you do feel better soon.
A google search tells me that strep throat develops within five days of contact with an infected person, so you’re probably okay on that score. Sleep and fluids sounds like the right remedy to me, unless it gets worse. If it gets any worse, I recommend freebasing heroin.
I select taking the day off, laying on the couch eating soup and watching Golden Girls reruns on lifetime. Always makes me feel better.
Oy, you guys.
I dragged myself into work AND made it to an audition.
I am insane.
I have an appointment for 9:30 AM tmrw at the clinic though I feel kind of silly now. Like Tim, I don’t think that it’s strep. It’s kind of too late to cancel at this point so I might as well go get checked out anyway. Most of the aches are gone and all that seems left at this point is the swollen glands. So, I might not be dying after all. WHO KNOWS.
Sounds exactly like strep! I get it ALL the time working with kids. Those are the exact symptoms (every single one of them) that I get. If it doesn’t go away, goo right to the doctor for the quick strep test and some antibiotics (and take EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!). The pain will be gone within hours of taking the first pill if it’s strep. (BUT STILL TAKE ALL OF THEM, or it might come back and be resistant.)
Like Jennifer said, have them do the rapid strep test and do a culture as well. I had strep last month and the sore throat only lasted 3 days and I had a mild fever. Well, I ended up being on two rounds of antibiotics and was struggling with fever and headaches for a month afterward. Not fun.
Just rule out strep since, if left untreated, it can turn into scarlet fever (fever with rash - not much of an issue) or rheumatic fever which can cause heart problems.
Oh yeah, and if the skin on your fingertips and toes peels off in big chunks, it’s from the strep so don’t freak out.
I just love the way Ms. Crunchy Chicken can sound soooo much like her mom, the nurse, with casual comments about chunks of skin peeling off. Next you’ll have Laura being tested for leprosy! JEESH!
This blog is beginning to sound like a soap opera. Laura would be AMAZING on one. No need to method act there!
Now, will someone help me write the 40 remaining pages of this thesis? Oh, wait, you guys can’t…because it’s about RELIGION!
(Just wanted to get a different conversation going for the weekend. We have blogged enough about physical ailments.)
Tee hee : )
Ms. Rita - That was pretty tame… don’t egg me on, I’ve got less scruples than my mother, and a whole lot of ammo
Either way, I know which med for her to take when she tests positive for leprosy - my husband is on it.
Oh, I can certainly write the 40 remaining pages of your thesis on religion. Except it may counter all the previous pages.
